What Is a Community Development District?
One of the things the Morse family considered when beginning to develop The Villages was sustainable ways to finance, operate and maintain the community’s infrastructure.
In 1992, we created our first Community Development District (CDD) and have continued to add additional districts over the years as the community has grown. These independent units of local, special purpose government are collectively known as The Villages Community Development Districts (VCDD) to serve residents and provide specific functions including, public safety, maintenance, utilities, sanitation, recreation and more.
It’s often shared that, “you know when you’re in The Villages, and when you’re not.” The ability to sustain the beauty and high-quality standards of our community are important to all of our Villagers, along with the peace of mind knowing that their investment goes right back into their hometown.
